Homichlophobia, or fear of fog, falls within that category of virtually unheard of afflictions. Indeed, it would probably be considered an irrational fear by most. But when you think about it, it's essentially a fear of the unknown -- the eeriness that people attribute to fog is because of what it can hide. It's the perfect cover for, say, a criminal to jump out from. Furthermore, what lies behind it is limited only by one's imagination...That criminal may very well be a movie monster, or a bear, or a particularly large spider.
My point: it sounds like some are a little uneasy about this weather lately. And although I suppose there is something to be said for fog, it's reasonable to say that the thing that people truly fear most about it is just what I suggest -- what could be hiding in it.
So tell me, city: what do you think is lurking out there?
