[Video flips on for a few seconds before Germany curses and puts it to voice. You can see for a moment there that he's been beaten up a fair bit, like he's been on the losing end of a bar fight. Bruises on his face, one eye swollen shut, split lip, split skin on cheekbone, a welt under an eye, dried blood under his nose and ear. Not looking so handsome there! And mighty panicky, too.]

What is going on? Why is the church burning and where is my brother? Ungarn is also not in the Communal, as well as a number of others. How many shadows have infested the city? Italien and I have just run into ours, but they have been driven off.

Yeah, I guess they're stronger than the people they come from then? Especially if.. you're a whole country. You should be able to do some damage.

[He's not entirely sure he understands, but he learned to accept things here. Like evil fog and sentient newspaper stands. And he's actually more visibly Italian, since the anime decided a half Italian guy needed a Japanese last name even though he grew up in Italy. And Gokudera is the surname.]

You are supposed to avoid the fog to avoid your shadow. The fog creates the shadow, as far as I've been told.

Huh. And how are you supposed to beat them? Seems like they're pretty damned strong.

The shadows said to accept them.

[A pause, and then dry laughter.]

Yeah, they seem like they're real fucking accepting. Are you supposed to reason with them before or after they kick the shit out of you? Maybe they'll just go away on their own once the fog clears.

After, I believe. And I hope so.

Soo.. what happened before? If it didn't want to reason before, what will make it change the next time it sees you? And what'll stop it from, oh, I don't know, KILLING YOU?

Before, it tells you plainly what it is. It is usually upon rejection -- which is likely the case for most, if not all of us -- its retaliation is swift and punishing.

Alright, so you just gotta avoid the fog to avoid the shadow, and if you DO encounter it.. make sure that it knows you love it unconditionally, or some shit. I think I got it. Thanks for the advice, Person-Who-is-Somehow-a-Country. I'll leave you to your own devices now, I'm sure you need to plan out how you're going to make it realize that you care about it.
